The Malaysian Franchise Association (MFA), a key pavilion exhibitor says the Middle East franchise market is largely untapped.

At the show, to be held from February 17-19 at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre, MFA will not only offer regional sub-franchise opportunities but will also seek investors in Malaysia's franchise sector.

"Our franchise-friendly government has played an active role in providing a conducive environment for entrepreneurs to venture into the franchise business. And vice-versa, opportunities should also be sought in other countries", said Datuk Adzmi Abdul Wahab, Chairman of the Malaysian Franchise Association. "The Middle East promises to be a lush landscape for us".

MFA will also be holding a seminar at the show. It will be chaired by En. Awalan bin Abdul Aziz, MFA's Secretary General and Chief Executive of and will explore the opportunities, trends and innovations of the franchise market worldwide.

Several notable Malaysian companies are already established in the Middle East, including Nelson's in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, and Marrybrown Fried Chicken in the UAE.

"Malaysian companies are keen to enter the Middle East especially as the region is becoming more global in its tastes and acceptance," said Mr. Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz, Consul General and Trade Commissioner of Malaysia. "Franchise Middle East will basically provide an avenue to establish and cement further excellent business relationships, as well as allowing us to explore and observe the market.

"It will also offer Malaysian franchisors the chance to acquire new ideas and technology from the world's foremost franchising experts and practitioners."

FME 2004 is being organised by International Expo-Consultants (IEC) and presented on behalf of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Establishment for Young Business Leaders.

"With a 27% rise per annum, the Middle East is one of the fastest growing franchise markets in the world," said Mohammed Falaknaz, Vice President, IEC. "Exhibitors from over 15 countries will take part bringing with them a wealth of franchising opportunities to the Middle East and North Africa.

"Many of these franchises, such as those from Malaysia, will be available in the region for the very first time."
