Lufthansa appoints new General Manager for Passenger Sales

He succeeds Wolfgang Klaws who has transferred to Frankfurt to assume responsibility for Global Key accounts.

Formerly General Manager Sales Services and Business Associations, Uwe Wriedt is a nineteen-year veteran of Lufthansa, and brings a wealth of experience, and many unique insights into the job, having begun his career as an apprentice.

He worked his way through the ranks, gaining station and sales management experience in a diverse variety of locations ranging from Anchorage to Katmandu. A graduate of a number of Lufthansa management programmes he has also been a project manager for airport infrastructure projects and Market Liaison Manager - Western Europe.

Wriedt is delighted to be heading one of the most strategically important regions in the Lufthansa global network and is looking forward to maintaining the success the airline has enjoyed against the backdrop of difficult marketing conditions.

"There is no argument that the airline industry is experiencing difficult times," he said. "However, the Gulf continues to represent a great opportunity for Lufthansa, with in-bound tourist passenger levels getting back towards those of this time last year, particularly to the UAE and Oman, while business travel to Germany is also enjoying something of a boom at present.

"Our aim through the past months has and will continue to offer the right product for our cosmopolitan customers. Quality, comfort, on time departures and arrivals coupled with the highest levels of service - will all ensure we remain at the head of the field."
