The UAE University announces Cisco Research Excellence Award in Information Technology

The UAE University (UAEU) and Cisco Systems today announced a prestigious 'Excellence Award' to recognize outstanding research in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) within the College of Information Technology.
The Cisco Systems Research Excellence Award was unveiled for representatives of regional media by H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Bin Mabarak Al-Nahayan, UAE Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Chancellor of the UAE University and Rob Lloyd, President of Cisco Systems Europe, Middle East and Africa.
"The UAE University is committed to providing the most comprehensive learning and research opportunities for our students and faculty," said H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Bin Mabarak Al-Nahayan, UAE Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Chancellor of the UAE University. "We welcome Cisco's partnership in helping to set new standards in research excellence."
"Research is the backbone of the ICT industry," said Rob Lloyd, President for Cisco Systems Europe, Middle East and Africa. "Cisco has many initiatives aimed at nurturing the grassroots of innovation and bridging the digital divide between nations. We are proud to work with UAEU's College of Information Technology on this unique and deserving project."
Dr. Ali Alnoaimi, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, added "This award represents international recognition of the quality of research that is being conducted in our College of Information Technology and the University, and we very much appreciate Cisco's support."
The Cisco Research Excellence Award will be awarded to one faculty member during the spring semester. Nominations will be solicited from university faculty members during February and will be judged by a panel comprising of experts from industry and the academic community. The winner will be awarded a commemorative plaque, a grant and networking equipment from Cisco Systems.
The UAEU's College of Information Technology offers seven degree programs: Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Networking Engineering, Information Systems, Information Security, and Electronic Commerce. The College has a full time staff of 50 faculty, lecturers, advisors and engineers, and plans to double its staff over the next several years. The College currently enrolls 655 students among its various degree programs.
