HH Sheikh Ahmed inaugurates secure jewellery facility in Dubai's gold souk
- United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, February 18 - 2004 at 09:26
- PRESS RELEASE
His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Department of Civil Aviation and Chairman of the Emirates Group, inaugurated the new joint initiative of Gold and Jewellery Group Dubai (GJGD), and Transguard at the Goldland Building in the heart of Dubai's gold souk yesterday.
His Highness Sheikh Ahmed said: "Transguard is happy to work with the Gold and Jewellery Group on this initiative to improve facilities for the industry. Transguard will continue to support the gold & jewellery industry in Dubai, and has recently set-up a dedicated area within the Dubai Cargo Village with the full facility of Customs Clearance, Kimberly Process Certification for rough diamonds, and door delivery of high value parcels to industry members - a truly complete and hassle free solution for the industry."
Transguard will also use its facility in the Gold Souk to provide special services to the various refineries located in the Dubai Metals and Commodities Centre (DMCC) and will be entering into an agreement with Al Ghurair Giga Gold Refinery LLC for a worldwide transportation service for gold bullion.
Says Tawhid Abdullah, Chairman of the Gold and Jewellery Group; "Dubai boasts of an annual consumption of 150 tonnes and this pioneering initiative (at Goldland Building) is an infrastructure advancement which will help position Dubai at par with the world's most modern cities in terms of infrastructure for gold, jewellery and precious stones. It is a step further on GJGD's commitment to its members and alliances."
"Dealings in this business are of very high volume, therefore primary benefits of Transguard's new service will be the faster turnaround time, increased security and reliability, cheaper cargo shipment, easy access for our members and control over each individual transaction," added Abdullah.
The new joint service is expected to be extremely well received by Dubai's jewellery traders as it offers them an alternative point of collection for precious deliveries, negating the need for retailers and wholesalers alike to travel to the company's Dubai International Airport facility.
"The safety and security of valuable consignments is of paramount importance to Transguard. I believe our new facility in Dubai's gold souk will provide our customers with the comfort of knowing their goods are in safe hands," said Dr. Abdulla Al Hashimi, Senior Vice President of Security for the Emirates Group.
Transguard, the security services provider of Emirates Group, is also the transportation partner of the Gold and Jewellery Group Dubai. Both the organisations had earlier tied up for the Gold Terminal in the Gold Souk, which started its operations in September 2003.
