The awards, widely likened to the 'Oscars' for Asian films, was launched by the Zee Network, one of the leading Indian television channel networks in 1998. This year's ceremony will mark the first occasion for it to be held outside of India. Further, it represents the only 'Popular Choice' awards, decided through a voting procedure involving fans from all over the globe.
'We are delighted that this prestigious event is to be held in Dubai, and gratified that Masala has been chosen as the official magazine of the event. We will cover the lead up to the awards, and the awards themselves in Masala with some exclusive interviews and behind the scenes stories so that our readers get the low-down on all the news from this exciting event' said Walid Akawi, ITP's Publishing Director.
The ceremony, to be held at the East Hall of the Airport Expo on February 26th, will be hosted by noted film director Karan Johar and actress Juhi
Chawla in front of a live audience of over 6,000 people plus a global television audience of half a billion. A total of 32 winners in various categories will be honoured at the ceremony.
The Zee Cine Awards is presented by mebank and Samsung Mobile Phone, in association with Dubai Media City.
