Gulf Maritime 2004 to feature revolutionary 'BOMBARDIER EVINRUDE' outboard engines

"These non-gasoline burning engines have been developed under a development contract with the United States Government to meet the US Department of Defense's single fuel initiative, as well as the US Department of Navy's policy to remove gasoline from its ships by the year 2010" said Robert Harrison, General Manager, Sea Horse Marine LLC.

"They have been developed by modifying the direct injection system used on earlier gasoline fueled outboard engines to enable them to function on alternative fuels that include JP5, JP8 and JetA fuels, plus heating oil, diesel fuel#1 and kerosene" he added.

Commenting on this breakthrough technology, Mr. Vince Mcleod, Manager, Special Accounts & Government Affairs, Bombardier Recreational products stated "With our DI technology we can make Evinrude outboard engines the option for virtually any marine power application, as our outboards will continue to provide superior power-to-weight ratios and peak performance, combined with a state-of­the-art fuel system capable of burning alternative fuel."

"These advanced technology engines can also be rope-started without an auxiliary battery. None of the competitive DI or four-stroke technologies in the marine market today have that capability" he claimed.

Sea Horse Marine sees a great potential for these particular products in the Middle East, given the region's large Oil & Gas Industry. "The market for outboards on alternative fuel is great" commented Mr. Harrison "as they are the answer to a fire-safe situation on the offshore Oil & Gas fields where the risk of an explosion is catastrophic" he said.
