FedEx delivers humanitarian aid to Iran earthquake survivors
- Iran: Thursday, February 26 - 2004 at 13:35
- PRESS RELEASE
FedEx Express, the world's largest express transportation company, today announced that employee efforts to help the survivors of the earthquake in Bam, Iran, resulted in five tons of humanitarian aid.
The FedEx Express consolidated facility at Dubai International Airport acted as the hub for sorting and packing the donations before they were handed over to Mr. Ahmed Murad Ibrahim of the Red Crescent Society for distribution.
"Participating in humanitarian operations and helping those in need is one of the principles of FedEx thinking," said Hamdi Osman, Regional Vice President, FedEx Middle East, Indian Sub-Continent and Africa.
"The joint effort of FedEx operations around the region, as well as those involved outside the company, helped us to collect, to sort and pack much needed goods in record time."
The project is another example of FedEx's commitment to the communities where it operates. Some examples include:
• The company's fifth blood drive in Dubai, where employees volunteered to give blood in aid of the Welcare Hospital and the Sharjah Blood Bank.
• In June last year, FedEx teamed up with Water Missions International to transport the equipment needed to provide safer water systems to the people of Iraq.
• FedEx also helps deliver sight worldwide with Orbis International, a nonprofit organisation that provides eye care and treatment to people in developing countries, through the world's only flying hospital. FedEx provides Orbis with aviation-related services such as aircraft safety checks, the shipment of medical supplies and aircraft equipment to sites all over the world.
• Each year, thousands of FedEx employees volunteer money, talent, resources and time - about 100,000 hours worth - to support various charitable organizations with which FedEx has strategic relationships.
