According to Nakheel, water will be the essence of Jumeirah Islands and will be incorporated through dynamic waterfalls, canals and calm lagoons, which together will envelop the 50 individual islands that are clustered together to form the inland development.

"The three million cubic metres of water will be pumped directly from the sea through dedicated underground pipes up to 2.5 kilometres long, that have been drilled into the earth solely to service Jumeirah Islands", said Wahid Attalla, Director of Operations for Nakheel. "The water inlet from the ocean into the development will be able to turned on and off, in order to top up the water supply by up to 15000 cubic metres daily".

In total there will be ten waterfalls in the development ranging in height from three to eight metres, along with five lagoons and several connecting canal waterways. The average depth of the water in the canals and lagoons will be three metres.

"The water will be hydraulically controlled to ensure a dynamic water flow and consistently crystal clear water", said Attalla.

"The entire one million square metres of land that will eventually be covered by water, will be lined by black geo-membrane material, to prevent water seepage to the underground layer, provide the depth feeling and aid in the elimination of algal growth", continued Attalla.

Not only will these waterways form picturesque views from the residential villas, apartments and guesthouses, but residents and their guests will be able to get active on them too. Canoes and peddle boats will be available for hire and some residents will be lucky enough to even moor their own private vessels at the bottom of their gardens from private jetties.

If you're a keen swimmer the options are also vast in the development, which spans 300 hectares of land. Each of the 736 residential villas will incorporate private swimming pools and additionally the recreation club will include a swimming pool.

Finally, for those that can't bear to be away from the feeling of sand between their toes, the two frond shaped islands of town homes will be almost entirely surrounded by 1.4kilometres of beach.

The main contractor handling the water infrastructure at Jumeirah Islands is Wade Adams Contracting.

Jumeirah Islands has residential villas, town homes and apartments for sale on a freehold basis to all nationalities. The 4 and 5 bedroom villas vary between 474 to 669 square metres in total built up area, and 803 to 1262 square metres in total land area, they vary from 1.9 to 2.4 million dirhams. The apartments and town homes are yet to be released for sale.
