Disaster recovery event will address lack of preparation in Middle East data protection

The Middle East operations of VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTS), the leading storage software provider, will host a seminar on disaster recovery (DR) for senior IT management after independent research found that 82 percent of Middle East companies suffer unplanned downtime, with many lacking an effective strategy to prevent and recover from data loss.

The event, being held in Dubai on 8 March, is open to managers and directors from small, medium and enterprise level companies and will address how disaster recovery strategies prevent costly business delays. Delegates will be briefed on creating and implementing an effective DR plan and choosing the appropriate solutions to backup and recover corporate data.

"Independent research published late last year revealed that many Middle East businesses, small and large, do not have adequate DR procedures in place to protect and recover their critical information," said Sam Tayan, regional manager for VERITAS, Middle East. "As data access forms a cornerstone for almost every type of business, an effective disaster recovery program becomes increasingly crucial. Analysis also determined that those regional organizations who do have some form of system in place are failing to test and review the procedures adequately,"

In conjunction with the DR seminar for its customers, VERITAS will also train a number of its channel partners in the UAE and Saudi Arabia about the company's latest innovations in disaster recovery systems and procedures. The aim of VERITAS' channel training is to ensure that its regional partners are fully qualified and certified to meet the DR adoption gap that was identified in the December 2003 research.

The upcoming DR events are precursors to the regional VERITAS VISION Forum, the premier regional conference for storage management professionals, scheduled for May 17. As part of a series that will also visit London, Madrid, Stockholm, Warsaw, Paris, Milan, Frankfurt, Johannesburg, Rotterdam, Copenhagen, and Zurich, the Middle East's VISION event will be the first forum taking place in the larger Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region.
