- United Arab Emirates: Sunday, March 07 - 2004 at 13:57
- PRESS RELEASE
Standard Chartered Bank has won the Banker Middle East Banking Award 2004 for Best use of IT for a Multi-Channel Strategy.
His Excellency Dr Mohammed Khalfan Bin Kharbash, UAE Minister of State for Finance and Industry, was Guest of Honour and made a keynote speech.
Focused on the GCC region, the award recognises the Bank's dedication to continuous improvement in the way it serves its customers.
The award was received for the bank's "Electronic Branch Banking System" or "eBBS", a comprehensive web-based core banking software solution, which has revolutionised customer convenience and increased staff efficiency ten-fold, since its launch in 2002.
David Edwards, Regional General Manager for Standard Chartered Bank Middle East and South Asia, praised the IT team: "Standard Chartered Bank focuses on ensuring we are always attentive and responsive to customer requirements. Our eBBS technology platform is home grown here in the Middle East, and we are proud it now sets the standard in the region, and for the Bank, globally."
Leading the way in technology, the proprietary, state-of-the-art "eBBS" core banking system was developed in the UAE. The system has since been rolled out across the Bank's operations in the Middle East and Pakistan, and is on schedule for global implementation.
The flexibility of the eBBS Internet banking system provides the Bank with an unparalleled ability to tailor products for customers.
Accepting the award on behalf of the Bank, V. Chandrasekar, Regional Head of Information Technology and Systems, Middle East and South Asia said: "Standard Chartered Bank continues to set new benchmarks in both customer service and technological innovation. This is one of the most flexible, secure, scalable, multi-platform, core banking software packages in the market today. We are changing the way people in the UAE do their banking forever."
The transition to eBBS allowed Standard Chartered Bank to launch one of the most functional and user-friendly Internet banking sites available today, giving customers the flexibility to carry out a majority of banking transactions around the clock.
"This is part of our commitment to providing the highest possible levels of customer service, together with state of the art technology," said Ray Ferguson, Chief Executive Officer, Standard Chartered Bank, UAE. "Privacy and security were front of mind when our team developed this site, but we have also ensured the site is user friendly, easy to use, and highly accessible."
The cutting edge web site allows users to view their entire relationship with the bank, transfer funds, make payments, view credit card details, view investment portfolios and apply for banking products.
