Motorola brings Intelligence Everywhere to the Middle East
- United Arab Emirates: Sunday, September 09 - 2001 at 09:26
- PRESS RELEASE
Motorola confirmed its role as the leading player in the General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) technology marketplace, by launching yesterday the largest range of GPRS phones in the Middle East and its vision for the future, Intelligence Everywhere.
"Motorola is making things smarter and life better, bringing the future as a reality today" added Mulligan.
Motorola is the only company to deliver a range of GPRS handsets in volume in the Middle East. The new GPRS portfolio includes:
V.series™ 66, Motorola's small iconic clamshell tri-band phone adds designer chic and desirability to technological leadership.
Timeport ™ 280 a tri-band phone with large screen, that can help keep the busy executive "in sync" with business and family even when they are out of the office.
Accompli™ 008, the all-in-one PDA and phone, a state of the art handset, incorporating a large touch screen, handwriting recognition, full e-mail, synchronised PIM - and the ability to add new applications through J2ME technology.
Talkabout® 192 phone, makes it personal with interchangeable front covers and lens covers, an easy to use phone with animated screen savers and iTap™ predictive texting for quick and simple text messaging.
The GPRS-enabled handsets will bring the 'mobile Internet' experience to life, taking mobile communications to the next level of GPRS, starting the migration from second generation (2G) to third generation (3G) technologies. The new GPRS phone range, which will extend the benefits of 2.5G technology to all consumer segments at all price points, demonstrates Motorola's commitment to a future of intelligent communications. GPRS delivers the most convenient, cost effective 'always on, always connected' consumer experience, enabling people to be always in touch with friends, workplace or home.
Technology and style
For the technological savvy and fashion conscious among us Motorola showcased its new V66, a phone that adds global chic to technological supremacy. Providing 'always on, always connected' faster access to the mobile Internet, this tri-band phone means you can jet around the US as well as Europe and be confident that your phone will keep you in touch with all your friends and important contacts.
"Motorola combines the smallest size with the latest technology in the V66. With hundred's of interchangeable bezels and compose able ring tones, the V66 is the ultimate personal accessory. And if talking isn't enough, then there is always e-mail to keep in touch with friends, family and colleagues or Arabic SMS messaging* with smart iTAP™ predictive texting function for improved speed and ease," said Fadi Kachkouche, marketing manager, Motorola, Middle East North Africa.
"Voice activated dialling saves time when you are on the go and Vibracall™ discreet alert means that important calls will not be missed even in the noisiest of airports or the quietest of meetings," added Kachkouche.
The sophisticated Motorola V.66 is also crucial to those juggling work with a busy social life. For those with so many friends and contacts that they find it difficult to keep up, then the 500 capacity phonebook will help them stay in control. Like an electronic notepad, VoiceNotes™ allows one to record three minutes of messages or reminders when running between meetings. This phone also has a Personal Information Management functionality (PIM) that lets one schedule important appointments as well as reminder that it's time to buy that birthday card! For all those workaholics TrueSync™ allows synchronisation between your phone and PC so you are always up to date.
Something is about to happen
Motorola also introduced its groundbreaking, Intelligence Everywhere™ vision where intelligent devices will think, communicate and plan ahead.
These new intelligent products need enabling technologies to make them actually work. Motorola's DigitalDNA embedded solutions are the chips, systems and software that make smart products come to life. The smart technology that makes wireless PDAs work reliably, the software that enables fingerprinting recognition technology, and the embedded systems that make Volvos more fuel efficient are all made possible by Motorola DigitalDNA. DigitalDNA solutions enable widespread connectivity. They combine the software and hardware that let different kinds of products 'talk' to each other. Beyond digital, beyond wireless, it is the technology that carries the information and instructions from one intelligent device to another.
Mulligan said, "These developments are examples of innovation focusing on the way we integrate communication technology into our lives and enable new future applications as well as new product forms."
"Imagine a vending machine that can take wireless payments from your phone, or a house that lets you operate all its appliances and heating and cooling systems with your voice, very soon it will be happening everywhere. We know, because at Motorola we are making it a reality," added Mulligan.**
New Applications***
Motorola also demonstrated the industry's most advanced set of GPRS applications, which will be available in Arabic. These cross over the four essential environments and range from:

Motorola Mobile Office Solutions: Extend to mobile users access to key office applications, such as email, calendar and contacts.
