The Dubai Chamber looks into consolidating trade cooperation with Malta

Mr. Abdul Rahman Ghanim Al Mutaiwee, the Director General of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry received Patrick Cole, Chief Officer of Business Development in 'Malta Enterprise', and Anthony P. Tabone, the Consul General for Malta in the United Arab Emirates, to discuss ways to consolidate cooperation in trade, business and investment sectors.

"The main goal behind this visit is to get to know the method followed by the UAE which resulted in the high achievements recognized by the whole world, especially in the trade and business fields", commented Cole. He also affirmed that Dubai's markets are valuable for the Maltese businessmen and therefore its vital that they succeed in penetrating them.

Cole said that "Malta Enterprise" is a new initiative set up by the government to consolidate trade cooperation with other countries and to attract foreign investment as well as tourism to Malta. The Maltese guest assured that Malta is prepared to offer all the necessary support to UAE companies wishing to invest in Malta and the neighboring markets like Libya, Tunisia and others which have close ties with Malta.

From his side, Mr. Al Mutaiwee affirmed that Dubai and Malta enjoy a close relationship, "Malta's relations with the Arab World in general are tight for geographical reasons and for Malta's role in consolidating relations between the Arabs and Europeans and between east and west", commented the Director General of DCCI. He also expressed the Dubai Chamber's willingness and readiness to provide all the necessary support to "Malta Enterprise" in Dubai and the region.

According to the annual Maltese reports for 2002, the total imports reached $3 billion, compared to the total exports which reached $2.3 billion. The total non-oil trade between Malta and Dubai for 2002 reached $34.3 million.
