- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, March 25 - 2004 at 10:14
- PRESS RELEASE
The winners of the Emaar International Art Symposium were granted their wish when Emaar Properties, organisers and promoters of the 13-day international event announced that the Symposium would be held annually.
"I'm honoured to be here among you because you have created amazing wonders in stone, metal, wood and on canvas. This endorses our company's belief that art and Emaar's lifestyle community developments complement each other in an environment of mutual, aesthetic taste," Mr. Alabbar said at the glittering award ceremony held under the lights of Dubai Marina, Emaar's upscale development. Emirates, the award winning airline, was the official carrier of the event.
"Dubai is an artists' delight, a city that can fill you with awe at the wonderful modernity while holding the visitor within its centuries-old tradition and culture. The world and this city has taken notice of your efforts. They've liked what they have seen. I want to say that this congregation of artists will meet in Dubai every year and that Emaar will continue to support it," he added.
Mr. Alabbar echoed the sentiments of several artists and sculptors who want Dubai to be a point of reference for their art form.
An international panel of judges evaluated the works. Athina Skhina from Greece and Ahmad Moualla from Syria addressed the audience on behalf of the five-member judging committee.
The Symposium began on March 10 with the sculptors taking positions at the Burj Dubai site. The painting competition started from March 17 around the Dubai Marina Lake.
Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Executive Director, Retail, Emaar Properties said: "Emaar is proud to have conceptualised this international event. I'm very happy that our chairman has given his commitment to support the Symposium every year. This is part of our commitment to promote the growth of art and culture as the grand buildings we construct are living testimonials to the power of art in all its manifestations."
The finished sculptures and paintings works will be exhibited at the Burj Dubai site and the Dubai Marina Sales Centre, and will be owned by Emaar Properties who will soon publish a catalogue of the works.
