The Dubai Chamber calls on members to play a more active role

The by laws of the Food Stuffs Trading Group were approved, and two new committee members were elected as a replacement for the two members who resigned.

This took place at the General Assembly meeting held on Thursday 25th March 2003 at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

"I advise you to take advantage of the many different services and tools we provide at the Chamber" said Mr. Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Banna, the Deputy Director General of the DCCI in his address at the General Assembly meeting. He continued; "We save you the time, hassle and money to establish contacts with other companies locally and abroad through the delegations we invite and the networking meetings we hold".

Mr. Sangam Sheth and Mr. T. Rajan are the two new committee members elected by the members during the General Assembly meeting to replace Mr. Paul Susan and Mr. David Rushton who resigned from their posts.

Mr. Al Banna stressed the importance of the regular meetings held regularly by the executive committee during which they address the issues faced by the food sector as a whole, brought up by the members on an individual basis, or during the General Assembly meetings held every quarter.

"The food industry sizes a decent share of Dhs 7.6 billion or 9.1% with re-export of Dhs 2.1 billion or 28% of total food imports" mentioned Mr. Majid Habib the newly elected Chairman of the group. He reaffirmed Mr. Al Banna's request to all the members to actively participate, perform share and contribute to the interest and welfare of the industry and play a role model to the benefit of its aims, objectives and strategies.

Mr. Lal, a member of the executive committee mentioned to the members that they are establishing a website on a temporary basis mainly to receive suggestions from the members and to ease communication amongst all concerned. He also highlighted that the Dubai Chamber will extend this facility as a link within its own website which is currently under construction. He added that the committee would like to establish sub-committees to deal with subjects like Port & Customs, Dubai Municipality, Health Section, Custom duties, etc.

All the members attending the meeting were given the aims, objectives and strategies, and were called upon to make suggestions for ways to develop the group into a more effective and proactive organization to serve the food stuffs industry.
