Microsoft promotes key MEA region executives in recognition of achievements

Microsoft Middle East and Africa today announced that Ali Faramawy, the company's regional director for Sales, Marketing and Services, has been promoted to the role of Regional Director Middle East and Africa, and Vice-President of Europe, Middle East and Africa region (EMEA), effective April 1st, 2004.

Emre Berkin, the current Vice President for Microsoft EMEA advances to Chairman of Middle East and Africa region effective April 1st, 2004.

"The Middle East and Africa region is one of Microsoft's fastest growing and most dynamic markets. Emre and Ali's dedication and hard work have allowed us to capitalize on the growth opportunities in the region and helped Microsoft to become the IT vendor with the greatest coverage in the Middle East and Africa region, with 30 local offices across 79 countries," said Jean Philippe Courtois, CEO of Microsoft EMEA.

Faramawy, has over 20 years experience in the technology industry in the region. He previously worked in a variety of sales, technical and management roles for international technology companies including Dun & Bradstreet Software, NCR Corporation and Yokogawa Marex. Faramawy joined Microsoft in 1997, initially as General Manager of Egypt, and for the past two years has been working alongside Berkin in transforming Microsoft's MEA operations.

Emre Berkin joined Microsoft in 1993 as General Manager to establish the company's operations in Turkey. Prior to joining Microsoft, Emre was with Digital Equipment Corporation. During his ten-year career with Digital, including six years in the United States, Berkin managed sales, consultancy, support and service organizations.

Faramawy has a degree in Computer Science from the Faculty of Engineering, Alexandria University and an MBA in Strategic Marketing from Hull University in the UK. Berkin has a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering from Middle East Technical University in Ankara and a Master of Science degree from DePaul University in Chicago.
