DM signs agreement with Malaysian university

Dubai Municipality has signed an agreement with Malaysian University of Technology for taking satellite reading from the five DVRS (Dubai Virtual Reference System) stations situated in different areas of Dubai.
Eng. Yousuf Al Marzouqi, Head of Mapping and Control Unit in the Planning Section of the Planning and Surveying Department in the Municipality said that the co-operation agreement between the Municipality and the Malaysian university was aimed at linking he horizontal control points of Dubai emirate with the global system ITRF (International Terrestrial Reference Frame).
He said the accuracy of the coordinates of the control points received through the stations will be of the order of 1-2cm in planimetry and 3-5cm in altimetry.
Al Marzouqi said that the Municipality analyses the data collected through these stations on a routine basis, at least once in every four years, or when the global systems are updated. For analysis, the data will be sent to the Malaysian university and updated with the global system.
He said the Malaysian University of Technology is one of the best institutions in this field. Compared to many other universities in the world it possess all the advanced technical infrastructure to suit the requirements of the Municipality.
Al Marzouqi said that Dubai Municipality is now trying to acquire advanced surveying software that will help in the near future to conduct data analyses so that they can provide the service itself instead of depending on any external agency.
