The curtain went up yesterday on the region's largest sports industry event to be held in the Gulf with more than 235 companies from 33 countries taking part at the Qatar Sports International (QSi) exhibition.
Speaking at a press conference in Doha, Ms Virginia Kern, Chairman of Fairs & Exhibitions Ltd, organisers of QSi, said "Substantial contracts will be announced during the exhibition to be awarded by Qatar National Olympic Committee (QNOC) for a wide variety of infrastructure, technical products and services. Qatar's shopping list is extensive and constantly evolving, with exhibitors offering everything from IT products to turn key construction projects."
Contracts will be announced on a daily basis at the QSi expo by the Sports Facilities and Infrastructure Department of QNOC. Then first announcements are expected to be made at 11:30AM Monday. These will include contract awards for the construction and refurbishment of new and existing facilities in Qatar, together with design, consultancy, broadcasting and IT solutions.
It is also anticipated that service contracts will be awarded for marketing and TV rights for major international sports events.
The exhibition hall reflects the truly international positioning of the event decorated with national flags from the 33 participating countries along with substantial pavilions presented by France, the UK and the Doha Asian Games Organising Committee. "Business visitors can expect to see innovative new ideas and products brought to the regions premier sports event all under one roof", said Ms Kern.
