  • PRESS RELEASE

Samsung Electronics, the regional and global leader in digital technology unveiled its largest three-dimensional (3D) SGH-E700 mobile phone replica, 15 metres tall and 13 metres wide at Dubai International Airport.

While Samsung raised a similar replica at the Paris International Airport, the stand in Dubai is larger and the only 3D stand created by the company across the world.

"This is one way to say a loud 'hello' to our valued customers, whether they are travelling by car or on a flight. This landmark stand near the Dubai International Airport aims at reaching a large number of consumers and emphasises Samsung's leadership position in the region," said Mr. Steve Han, Senior Manager, Telecommunications, Samsung Gulf Electronics.

The hand that seats the E700 mobile phone is mounted on a steel tower structure and galvanised angles. The stand is internally lit by standard fluorescent lamps and accessories. Their dimensions are as per the Structural Engineer's recommendation and supported by the engineering calculations.

The SGH-E700 weighs 85g and includes functionalities such as a super-VGA digital camera, General Packet Radio Service (GPRS), Wireless Access Protocol (WAP) browser, internal antenna and a dual colour high-resolution LCD display screen.

Samsung has embarked on a mission to drive the Multi-Media Messaging Service (MMS) revolution in the Middle East. The company recently launched the region's first MMS mobile phone to be equipped with a super-VGA digital camera, the SGH-E700. The company plans to launch 95 per cent of its new mobile phones in 2004 that are MMS-enabled.

On Samsung's mobile phone leadership position, Mr. Han, stated: "Samsung's vision is to be the leader in the mobile phone industry in the Middle East. We have already achieved this position in Iran and we are very close to the top position in other markets in this region."

Han said that Samsung's commitment to introduce mobile phones equipped with MMS capability such as the SGH-E700 would play a key role in consolidating and growing the company's share in the regional mobile phone market. This year Samsung aims to double the growth of its mobile phone business in the Middle East by 100 per cent," added Mr. Han.

Recent figures made available by leading European research group, GfK, put Samsung in leading positions across the Middle East, in terms of mobile phone sales: number one position in Iran and number two position across GCC countries including UAE and Saudi Arabia. Samsung also enjoys number two position in Pakistan.
