Tanmia co-hosts National Conference on Emiratisation Challenges during Careers 2004

Tanmia, the National Human Resource Development and Employment Authority, has organised a National Conference on Emiratisation Challenges at the Dubai World Trade Centre on April 7, in association with the Dubai Human Resources Forum and the Abu Dhabi Human Resources Group, on the sidelines of Careers 2004, the annual career fair.

A major highlight of the one-day conference was an address on the challenges of Emiratisation, by Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar, Director General, Tanmia on behalf of His Excellency Matar Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of Labour and Social Affairs and Chairman of the Tanmia Board of Trustees.

The conference brought together professionals and policy makers to share their vision of Emiratisation. The Centre for Labour Market Research and Information, Tanmia, presented the Emirati employees' perspectives on Emiratisation, while HR professionals presented their experiences with Emiratisation.

Presentations were also made by Ayesh Al Barguthi, Director - Employment and Skills Development Center; Anas Al Otaiba, Training Manager, ADNOC; Fahd Al Hassawi, VP HR and Employment Service, Emirates Group; Faisal Al Sayegh, Group Manager, EPPCO and Khaled Matar, Training Department, National Bank of Abu Dhabi.

The panel discussions involved all key speakers, joined by Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Awar, Martin Jalili, Chairman, Dubai Human Resources Forum and Sultan Al Hajji, CEO, Abu Dhabi Human Resources Group.

"Careers 2004 is an event of major significance for Tanmia. It presents us with an opportunity to address HR professionals who can have a significant impact on the ongoing Emiratisation drive," said Dr. Al Awar. "We have assembled a panel of high level speakers who will shed light on the achievements as well as challenges of Emiratisation. The conference helps to provide a roadmap for accelerating the implementation of Emiratisation, while highlighting the steps taken by bodies like Tanmia in introducing measures to make UAE nationals more employable and in creating bridges with potential employers through regular interactive programs."

About Tanmia
Tanmia, the National Human Resource Development & Employment Authority in the UAE, was established by a Presidential decree in November 1999, to address the imbalance in the labour market, due to excessive dependence on expatriate workforce. Tanmia is engaged in a coordinating role, between national job seekers and employers in the private and government sectors, to facilitate increased entry of nationals in the labour market. The responsibilities that rest with the Authority are: to set up the overall policy of the Authority and supervise its implementation, conduct sustained operational and administrative labour market studies and analysis, provide career counseling and guidance to the national work force, follow-up and evaluate employment of nationals in public and private sectors, support small investment enterprises through the establishment of self-employment projects for national human resources and develop programmes for training and qualifying nationals seeking employment, in conformity with the labour market needs.
