Course attracts 21 tour guides from 10 nationalities

A new tour guide course is currently being held until April 21, 2004 at the Dubai Cruise Terminal which operates under the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM).
Senior officials from the DTCM including Director Tourism Affairs Mr. Gary Mason, Manager Training Division Ms. Lisa Steel, Executive Trainer at Training Solutions Mr. Faisal Kadfour Al Mohairy, Senior Trainer Training Solutions Ms. Michelle Sabti and Trainer Training Solutions Mr. Mohammed Ghaffari are imparting training to the participants.
According to Al Mohairy: "This course plays an important role in giving tourists and visitors accurate information about the emirate and its economy. The tour guide plays an important role as he is the medium between Dubai and the tourists and is the source to educate them about what the emirate has to offer as a destination."
The aim of the course is to give the participants the experience and the ability to convey correct information to the tourists in order to give a good impression about the emirate.
Al Mohairy said that 21 participants of different nationalities including the UAE, Belgium, Russia, India, Pakistan, Japan, Sri Lanka, Jordan, Palestine and Holland in addition to some employees from the department are participating in the course.
During the course, all the participants will gain valuable information related to tourism, economy, geography and culture of Dubai in addition to information about the other government departments of Dubai. All the participants will be awarded a license at the end of the course by the DTCM in order to practise as a tour guide.
