Servicing the chilled distribution needs of corporate customers in the UAE, the new facility covers a broad spectrum of storage and delivery services for milk, various dairy products, frozen meats, fruits, vegetables and beverages, among other temperature controlled products.

Explaining the significance of the launch, Mike Lee, General Manager of PWC Logistics said that it was yet another milestone for the company to establish this new facility for specialist cold-chain logistics, within less than a year of launching operations in the UAE. "This new development is in line with the PWC Group's strategy of extending our customers' reach across territorial boundaries within the region," Lee stated. We also understand the importance of their wanting to store products in a food safety compliant environment which meets international standards.

"But more significantly, the launch of the facility is complementary to Dubai's rapid development as a hospitality centre. The distribution facility, located off Sheikh Zayed Road, is central and convenient for many hotels and new shopping malls on the stretch of development known as New Dubai.

"Because of their particular cold chain requirements, many temperature controlled products have until now not been delivered direct to store or outlet. Our new facility will simplify the supply chain for many manufacturers and marketers," he explained.

PWC Logistics' chilled facility is one of the largest cold storages in Dubai with the entire logistics operation covering an area of more than 10,000 sq meters. The centre operates within a temperature band of -18°C to +25°C and has a present capacity of 7,000 tonnes, which is expected to double by the end of year 2005. Transport to stores and outlets located within the UAE is also being handled by PWC Logistics, with a combined fleet of 150 vehicles.

"While we provide exhaustive retail and liquid logistics support for our customers, we certainly hope to be doing more business with them as they continue to grow," Lee added.
