UK media extols Dubai

Dubai's tourism facilities and services will be prominently highlighted in the leading UK travel magazines and newspapers as a group of six journalists from these publications extolled the emirate's every area of tourism, especially focusing on the adventure aspect.

The visit was sponsored by the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM).

The DTCM Executive Missions, Abdulla bin Suwaidan, who was present with the group during their stay in Dubai, said adventure tourism is something which is attracting travelers lately to the emirate from all over the globe.

"While we market the emirate as an all-purpose destination, we also cater to travelers and inquirers interested in visiting Dubai for specific purposes and functions. This attracted the group to know more about the emirate and services it provides to travelers looking for adventure and exploration," said Mr. bin Suwaidan.

He noted that the media personals were pleased and excited to witness the emirate's latest infrastructure and had their questions lined up, all focusing on Dubai's plans for the future.

"They has lots of queries and we had lots of information to provide, which made them appreciate and laud Dubai's far reaching aims and ability in promoting tourism and marketing the destination," said Mr. bin Suwaidan.

The guests were provided detailed information and were taken for a city tour, which gave them an insight into the emirate's tourism infrastructure.

"They visited Dubai hotels, beach properties, desert safaris, Hatta and historical sites, which gave them a good idea about the tourism facilities available in the emirate" added Mr. bin Suwaidan.

Speaking about the growth in the numbers of visitors from UK to the emirate, Mr. bin Suwaidan remarked: "The number of UK hotel establishment guests in the year 2003 recorded three per cent increase over 2002".

He briefed the travel agents about the works and achievements of the DTCM regionally as well as internationally. He also dwelt upon the emirate's latest infrastructure and services, which can be availed by visitors.

"Assisting media is one of the integral strategies of the department to promote Dubai's tourist sites and in turn boost the tourism of the emirate," he said

The group was also accompanied by the DTCM UK Communications Manager, Lucy Blogg. The group was also hosted by the Jebel Ali Hotel.
