Danube established a very successful showroom in Wadi Kabir in Muscat in June 2001, offering a stock of over 10,000 building material products such as plywood, timber, laminates, gypsum boards, chip boards, sanitary fittings and hardware products.

'Construction is underway on our second showroom being built on a 5,000 square metres plot of land in Mabella, about 60 kilometres from Muscat. Mabella is a fast growing residential and industrial area where we would be offering our extensive range of building materials to local traders, carpenters and joineries,' said Mr. Anis Sajan, the Group's MD. 'With the launch of the Mabella showroom, we expect Danube's Oman turnover to increase by 50 per cent.'

The Mabella showroom, expected to be completed by early July this year, will carry stocks worth Dh 7 million (RO 735,000). Danube Building Materials FZCO has its main headquarters in Jebel Ali Free Zone and has showrooms in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and in Oman.

Mr. Sajan said the Sultanate's decision in February this year to allow expatriates to own property and developments in the tourism sector in Oman is expected to fuel the growth in building materials demand in Oman.

While Al Danube has carved out its place in the sun in the field of exotic woods, it also carries stocks of over 10,000 products sourced from Europe, the Far East and China. The company has recently announced the opening of a branch in Guangzou in China. Danube has future plans to open an outlet in Salalah once the Mabella operation is established.

Apart from building materials, Danube has the following value added facilities in their Jebel Ali headquarters: Melamine MDF Plant, Kitchen Shutter Manufacturing, Veneer Pressing, UV Laquer Coating on Wood and Veneer, CNC Routing and other furniture components.
