- PRESS RELEASE
The Roads Department at Dubai Municipality completed 10 road projects worth Dhs 537 million as well as the designing of 13 projects to serve different areas in Dubai last year, according to the annual report of the department.
He noted that the Dhs51.6 million Second Phase of the Dubai Bypass Road, which links Al Awir Road with the Dubai-Al Ain Highway, was constructed as complementary to the Dhs60 million first phase of the project, completed in July 1999 and links northern borders of Dubai with Al Awir Road.
The Dhs16.3 million Trade Centre Intersection upgradation project involved expansion of the intersection by increasing the current number of lanes from three to four by expanding a number of entry roads to the roundabout. This has reduced traffic congestion in the area, resulting from increased vehicular movement on Sheikh Zayed Road and other roads leading to the intersection.
Mr. Saeed said: "The projects that were designed last year included the third interchange on Sheikh Zayed Road, work on pavement in Al Ras area, Interchange 4.5 and Interchange 2.5 on Shaikh Zayed Road, roads and pavement works in Jumeirah, Al Badaa Road, access roads to the Global Village and the road corridor and access system for the Palm Island. Of these, works of the third interchange on Sheikh Zayed have already begun and the Dhs96 million project is expected to be over by January next year. The Dhs233 million Palm Island Corridor and Access project, whose works will begin later this year, is aimed at meeting travel demand to The Palm Jumeirah and several other development projects in the area."
He added that 18 road projects will be designed during this year, which will involve pavements at Al Wasal, various road projects in Nad Al Sheba, Al Barsha South, Warsan 3, upgrading of intersections in different parts of the emirate, parking and service roads at Rashid Hospital, and Jumeirah roads and pavement works. While the designing for these projects was completed in January this year, they are being implemented this month.
"The designing of third phase of the Dubai Bypass Road", Mr Saeed said, "will be completed in June this year and the implementation of the project will begin some time in August."
