10th Conference of the Organisation of Islamic Cities and Capitals opens

Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and Industry and Chairman of Dubai Municipality inaugurated today the three-day 10th Conference of the OICC at the Dubai International Convention Centre (DICC).
161 member cities, capitals and organisations from 54 countries are attending the conference to discuss topics related to city planning, urban development, and population growth. The conference will also see the presentation of several papers on experiences of different member cities in civic activities.
Conveying the greetings of The President His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan said, "We are proud to host this conference that aims at unifying the effort of the Islamic nation in order to accomplish the prime objectives of the Organisation of the Islamic Capitals and Cities, whose progress and prosperity you have undertaken as a responsibility."
In his address during the opening session of the general conference, Omar Abdullah Qadi, Secretary General of OICC said,"Since the establishment of the OICC in 1980, our aim has been to achieve more development for the Islamic cities and countries. We are doing so by holding international conferences and organising scientific seminars and exhibitions to support the march of the organisation."
He noted that in the 24 years of its existence, the organisation achieved great success by supporting numerous investment projects in different Islamic countries.
"The organisation has left no stone unturned in its efforts to preserve the Islamic identity and tradition. It also supports scientific research to facilitate the development of the Islamic cities. The organisation has great interest in the urban development, an important issue that we should all be focusing at and looking forward to achieving," said Dr Abdul Rahim Shihatah, Mayor of Cairo and Chairman of the Ninth General Conference, while addressing the session.
