Working with its well-established partner Omnix Qatar, Sun experienced strong demand for its Sun Java Office products when they were on display at this week's Hi-Tech exhibition.

"The latest trend amongst business leaders in Qatar is to purchase affordable software that helps streamline business processes," said Mehmet Iyimen, managing director, MENA, Sun Microsystems. "When starting a new business, the first step of putting together an IT infrastructure is purchasing the hardware. But with the evolution of the Qatari market, we are now seeing a strong focus on software spending."

Visitors to the exhibition, held at the World Trade Centre in Qatar this month, had the opportunity to try out the fast-to-implement and easy-to-use Sun software at the Omnix Qatar stand.

IT managers from Qatar-based companies also took advantage of speaking with Sun experts about the business benefits that Java Enterprise System, Java Desktop System and Star Office suite can deliver.

Mohammed Zaki, General Manager, Omnix Qatar, said: "People in charge of businesses prioritize affordability and simplicity when it comes to making any IT investment. Sun Java Office products are simple and low-cost, and there has been enthusiasm for the entire range."

Sun's Java Enterprise System has transformed the enterprise software industry with a radical and new approach to software design and development. Interest has been strong in Qatar with bosses of large organizations are impressed with Sun's simple approach. "Sun is helping Qatar-based organizations to reduce complexity by combining software and services for a single price for each employee per year," said Iyimen.

Price-conscious business chiefs in Qatar have also been quick to adopt Sun's Java Desktop System. "It's also the only system with fully integrated Java technology. That makes it an 'out-of-the-box' desktop ready to run thousands of Java technology-based applications with a consistent look and feel," said Iyimen. "The Java Desktop System is a more affordable, secure desktop that is designed to thrive in a Windows-centric world. Being Arabic enabled, Sun provides a real alternative to Microsoft XP and Office, but at up to 70 percent less cost."
