Sony Business hosts annual regional distributor conference in Dubai

  • United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, April 27 - 2004 at 12:14
  • PRESS RELEASE

Sony Business Middle East & Africa (MEA) holds their annual conference for regional partners in Dubai today.

The day event will cover a wide range of areas, including a performance review for 2003 and targets for 2004, planned strategies and anticipated challenges will be discussed as well as developments in the AVIT market and convergence trends in addition to the latest in Sony technology innovations (including XDCAM and High-Definition Camera Systems known as HDTV). This event will culminate in a fun-packed evening where Sony Business partners will experience the excitement of go-karting followed by dinner during which they will be awarded for their efforts.

At a gala dinner arranged for that evening, ten achievement awards and certificates will be presented to Sony Business partners, relating to business performance in the region. These awards will be handed to them by Mr. Phil Slack, Sony Business's Regional Director, MEA.

"We recognize the important role that our partners play in raising awareness of the Sony brand name in the region, and our extensive range of broadcast, professional communication and AV/IT solutions for organizations and individuals working in the fields of media and entertainment, business, retail, education, healthcare, construction and government," said Hassan Ghoul, General Manager Sales, Sony Business MEA. "It is through their hard work that we are in such a strong position today."

One of Sony's broadcast solutions to be highlighted at the conference is HDCAM, the latest cutting edge digital technology in cinematography and internationally recognized as the medium of Broadcast of the future due to its flexibility and greater capacity of information acquisition. HDCAM, from Sony Business, typically takes in 7 times more

information than a conventional (Standard Definition) broadcast camera. With HD, the quality of movie production is taken to another level, with the average movie viewer experiencing enhanced picture and sound quality. Most recently, key moments at the Dubai World Cup were captured by HDCAM and relayed to TV stations around the world.

"In addition to HDTV, we are particularly excited about the potential that XDCAM will have in the region and hence are giving our partners in the region an insight into the benefits of XDCAM and the advanced operational capabilities it boasts," said Ghoul. "XDCAM is the most tangible result of Sony's huge research and development program - a new professional optical disc media delivering radically new ways of working that is faster and more flexible than any previous broadcast format." Sony Business partners will get a unique insight into the XDCAM roadmap, underlining its cost/performance advantages and the huge benefits of random access to content and the high speed of transfer now possible through a digital media.
