Emirates opens new air Traffic Management Training Facility

The Emirates Group proved today that it is continuing to offer the very best in aviation training opportunities for the Middle East region with the official opening of the new Air Traffic Management training facility.

Emirates' Chairman, HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, who dedicated the facility at the Emirates Aviation College, said: "I am pleased to inaugurate this new facility which further enhances the support we already provide to our client civil aviation authorities across the Middle East region and beyond.

"The aviation training facilities at Emirates Aviation College are among the best in the world and I am confident that the college will continue to cater to the requirements of our colleagues in the aviation industry for the foreseeable future."

The presentation ceremony was attended by Sheikh Fahem Mohammed Khalid AL Qassimi, in addition to a number of dignitaries representing civil aviation authorities from Kuwait, Bahrain and Pakistan, among others.

Sheikh Ahmed presented an award to Walid Ghanim, Chief of Licensing & Aeromedical, General Civil Aviation Authority of the UAE (GCAA), in recognition of the GCAA's continued support for the Emirates Aviation College.

During the presentation, Mohammed Al Budoor, Prinicipal of the Aerospace & Academic wing of the Emirates Aviation College, announced that Fujairah International Airport has decided to send its trainee Air Traffic Controllers to undergo courses at the new facility.

The Air Traffic Management Training department offers a wide range of training programmes from standardised Air Traffic Control courses to specialised advanced courses. All courses meet international standards and recommendations governed by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), Eurocontrol, and, in applicable parts, the national standards of the GCAA.

Students undergo training using the state-of-the-art, three-dimensional Air Traffic Control simulator (Adacel MaxSim) which features high quality, photo textured visual scenes with exceptionally realistic weather simulation, etc.

The Air Traffic Management department is part of the Aerospace & Academic Studies wing of the Emirates Aviation College which offers a range of programmes, which include Aerospace Engineering, Electronics & Computers, Tourism Management and Business Management Studies.

The programmes lead to vocational higher BTEC diplomas awarded by UK-based Edexcel Foundation. During their study, students are sent by the college on work-placements to various organisations within the UAE and abroad, in support of the vocations, technical and academic programmes.
