The McDonald's restaurants in the Middle East consolidated their leadership position in Corporate Social Responsibility by issuing their first Social Responsibility Report, on the occasion of their sponsorship of the First Middle East Summit on Corporate Social Responsibility that will be held in Dubai this month under the patronage of HH General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Minister of Defense.

The effort is part of McDonald's restaurants to encourage and draw attention to the role that the private sector can play in supporting the communities that they work in.

In the Middle East, all McDonald's restaurants are independently owned and operated by local entrepreneurs who share resources and coordinate initiatives in the support of the local and regional charities and children's causes. "With this report, we wanted to share with other companies and government organizations participating in the Summit our success stories in being a contributing member to our community." Said Alsharif Abdallah Alluhaymaq, Marketing and Communications Director with the McDonald's Middle East Development Company, on the occasion of the launch of the report. He added: "Being a responsible corporate citizen is not just about contribution to charity. It is a comprehensive corporate philosophy that covers every aspect of doing business, including: Providing customers with the best quality products or services, creating employment opportunities, developing local employees, supporting local suppliers, and contributing wherever possible to charity causes in their local market."

McDonald's restaurants have employed this philosophy from the start of their operations in 1955, and practice it in every community that they serve. Being a family restaurant, their focus in the Middle East has been on the support of children's causes, with fund raising initiatives, contributions, and awareness drives for children's causes, in coordination with local authorities and charities.

The First Middle East Summit for Corporate Social Responsibility is organized by the Institute for International Research (IIR), and includes two days of conferences as well as post-conference workshops. The Summit is the latest addition to Dubai's list of prestigious events, and is supported by the Dubai Development and Investment Authority, the UNDP, and the Global Alliance for Workers and Communities.
