CABSAT 2002 opens today

The 8th annual Middle East International Cable, Satellite, Broadcast & Telecommunications Exhibition (CABSAT) opens today at 10 am at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre with more than 150 exhibitors from 23 countries eager to showcase the newest technologies and solutions in the cable, satellite, broadcast and telecom sectors.

The exhibition, to be held in Halls 3 and 4 will be open from 10 am - 1pm and 5 pm - 8:30 pm on March 5,6 and 7.

This year's edition includes a first-time pavilion for Bavaria, one of the strongest economic regions in Europe and in terms of growth, Germany's number one state. The Bavarian Ministry for Economic Affairs, Transport and Technology represented by Bayern International coordinated participation in the Bavarian pavilion with the support of the Association of the Bavarian Chambers of Industry and Commerce and nine companies will have a presence.

"The European presence, in general, continues to strengthen at the event. The UK continues to field the strongest presence, complemented by a growing German visibility. We have 16 German companies in total participating, including many of our loyal supporters - among them - Sachtler and WISI Wilehlm Sihn. In addition, nine companies from France will have a presence, including Eutelsat and VIACCESS. We are also delighted to welcome representatives from Intelsat, of the US, for this first time," said Vijay Menon, International Project Manager for CABSAT 2002.

Several local players will also be on hand to showcase new technologies, including E-Vision which will feature its newest digital interactive TV services and launch an Electronic Programme Guide at the event. Showtime, one of the fastest growing digital satellite pay-TV networks in the Middle East, will launch Home Cinema(tm) at CabSat 2002.

Procast, a leading company that provides turnkey system solutions to the global broadcast, communications and production industries, said it plans to introduce innovative broadcasting equipment at the exhibition. The products, which are targeted at the fast-growing satellite communications industry in Dubai, will be launched in the presence of international beauty queens, former Miss World Yukta Mookhey and former Miss Lebanon Dina Azar.

"Cabsat 2002 offers a fantastic opportunity to network with professionals and companies in the satellite communications industry as it brings together some of the most famous names in broadcasting technology," said Dr. Saleh Lashter, Chairman & CEO, ProCast.

The exhibition has again attracted tremendous interest from the UK with 30 companies participating this year. Among them will be Masterpoint Engineering, one of the UK's leading suppliers of pre-owened iSLX/BteX equipment, which has chosen CABSAT as the venue to make their debut on the international exhibition circuit.

Both Korea and Taiwan will also have a significant presence. Some 15 companies from Korea will participate including several newcomers, while Taiwan will be represented by 16 organisations.

IKUSI, a newcomer at the exhibition from Spain will showcase equipment for the reception and distribution of TV signals as well as a range of telecommunications products and services involving high frequency and optical transmission technology.

Among the highlights of the event will be the regional launch of new slow-motion editing technology by EVS Broadcast Equipment and the regional launch of the PDS 6000 switcher by Pinnacle Systems.
