The students, who are undertaking the UAE's only dedicated e-commerce degree -a Bachelor of Applied Science in E-Commerce, were introduced to various Comtrust solutions in the fields of e-payment, Public Key Infrastructure and hosting.

Commenting on the visit, Comtrust's General Manager, Ahmad Abdulkarim Julfar said, 'We have been working with the various campuses of HCT for quite sometime. The idea of these visits is to apprise the students of the commercial realities of regional e-business.'

Upon arrival, the students were briefed on major Comtrust solutions and how they have been applied to different e-business challenges before being taken on a tour of Comtrust's state-of-the-art data centre, one of two Comtrust has in the UAE and the foundation of its commercial offerings.

According to Tony Degazon, Chair E-Commerce Programme, Dubai Men's College, the day's curriculum was practical and applicable to what students are currently learning.

'The students are currently evaluating different operating platforms for hosting. Visiting Comtrust's data centre was very rewarding as it allowed the students to place this research in context. They learned first hand about the physical and logical security, which is required to provide secure data facilities. It was the first time the students have had the opportunity to visit such a facility,' explained Degazon.

Students were also full of praise for the daylong visit. 'I liked how Comtrust organised the trip, the presentations were great and the visit to the Data centre was really worthwhile,' said Majid Atiq Harib Mohammed. Mohamed Abdullah echoed his classmate's comments, 'I enjoyed the visit to the data centre, the various server systems were of particular interest.'

Both Comtrust and HCT are keen to continue their unique relationship and are planning more visits in the future. 'The e-commerce programme is very much focused on the practical application of knowledge. Visits to authentic work places, such as Comtrust, are truly invaluable to place what students are learning in a real context,' said Degazon.
