Gulf Business Machines to develop GOIC website
- Qatar: Monday, May 03 - 2004 at 16:30
- PRESS RELEASE
Gulf Business Machines (GBM), Sole Distributor for IBM Products and services in the Gulf countries excluding Saudi Arabia, has been appointed to develop a knowledge portal for Qatar's Gulf Organisation for Industrial Consulting (GOIC).
Mohammed Ali Almosalem, Secretary General, GOIC, said: "GOIC is a major player in gathering, analysing and publishing industrial data relevant to the region. The development of the portal will enable governmental and industrial customers to access our high-quality, integrated and focused research, information and consultancy services relating to economic and industrial development in the region.
"The WebSphere suite of products from IBM will form the foundation of the portal and once the project is completed it will serve as a sustainable and dynamic resource for a range of industrial information. This will include online databases, statistics, indicators, reports, news bulletins and a newsletter, customised information services, investment opportunity services and an information analysis and inquiry service," he added.
"The portal will not only provide easy access to GOIC's information but it will also allow us to transform raw data into information. By harnessing technology, GOIC will be able to use the Internet as a marketing channel to expand our customer base to international markets," added Eid Al Dehani, Assistant Secretary General, GOIC.
GOIC's in-house team of experts, researchers and high-level decision-makers will benefit from the portal, while external users - in addition to governments and industrial customers - are expected to include research and consulting houses, universities and educational establishments, independent researchers, embassies and international chambers of commerce.
"The development of this portal by GBM will further enhance our position as a Centre of Excellence and will expedite our responsiveness to the very specific needs of our customers, and this will undoubtedly enhance the value to our operations," said Fahad Almulhim, Director of Market Intelligence, GOIC, who added that the selection of GBM for the undertaking is based on its offer of a comprehensive solution, excellent references and its competitive pricing.
