Hydroturf will design, build and operate the 18-hole golf course.

The project is part of Sheikh Faisal's continued commitment to promote Ras Al Khaimah's hospitality and leisure industry. "I have a full confidence in Ras Al Khaimah's potential as a tourist destination, therefore I am determined to invest in projects that will boost tourism in the emirate." Sheikh Faisal was quoted as saying.

The 18-hole grass fully floodlit Golf Course and Academy is the first golf course in Ras Al Khaimah and the second of its kind in the UAE. The project will commence in March to be completed early next year.

The agreement entrusts Hydroturf International to manage the project during the construction period as well as after completion. "This contract is the continuation of a long term relationship between our company and Sheikh Faisal, and underpins both parties' commitment to the success of this project" explained Colin Baxter, Managing Director, Hydroturf International

The new project is set to increase traffic to Ras Al Khaimah hotels, explained Sheikh Faisal: "With the new tourist attraction, leisure seekers will be encouraged to visit Ras Al Khaimah and play this popular game whilst enjoying the dramatic scenery which surrounds and frames Ras Al Khaimah."

As a new entrant to the industry, the course will strengthen the local golfing sector. "This project is expected to enhance the Emirates' position as a golfing centre and help to attract inbound tourists," added Sheikh Faisal

State-of-the-art equipment, material and technology have been used to ensure compliance with the highest international standards for golf course development. "An area of mangroves with a tidal inlet from the sea is an integral part of the overall project and will be maintained, protected and in fact developed," explains Martin Champion, the project construction manager.

As the UAE human resource market offers skilled professionals in the golf industry, the golf course will be developed and completed using local specialists and managers." The UAE has been developing expertise in this field for the past 15 years; today the country is internationally recognised as a golfing centre," said Baxter.
