Open to the public, the event will feature the creative work of 24 senior students, 13 from the Visual Communication Department and 9 from the Interior Design one. The work displayed is the selection from the portfolio of four intense years of study, and it presents to the public the best examples of the students' creative work which ranges from photography, graphic design, illustration/fine arts and advertising in Visual Communication to their innovative design ideas in Interior Design.
The event also presents the students with the opportunity to interface with professionals in the design field and to truly discuss the merits and inspirations of their work. It is the pinnacle of their years at the university and hence is charged with creative energy.
'The Visual Communication Department strives to plant the seeds of responsible design in its students' minds; to encourage them to create design/art work that reflects their true culture and taps into the rich diversity of their environment. We strive to push our graduates to go beyond preconceived ideas and clichés. We believe in design/art work that matters; that educates and inspires; that is appropriate yet never fails to surprise; that meets the functional needs yet goes beyond them to change people's perceptions; that gives people not only what they want but rather what they need; that marries intelligent solutions with creative intuition; that balances craft with inventive concepts; and finally that not only follows form but also communicates effectively' said Dr Huda Smithshuijzen Abifares, Chair of the Visual Communication department at AUD.
Dr John Alexander Smith, Chair of the Interior design Department at AUD said that 'At AUD, interior designers are trained to approach life in an interactive and non linear manner which is very useful and applicable to today's highly demanding design fields. These students display work that shows that they are ready to undertake professional challenges in all the technical and social aspects of design.'
The event will take place in two venues at AUD: in the main administrative building for the Interior Design exhibition and in the Engineering building for the Visual Communication exhibition.
