- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, March 07 - 2002 at 12:35
- PRESS RELEASE
On the 21st February this year, the cash registers at Dubai Duty Free were ringing as the shopping complex recorded a new daily record of Dhs4.3 million (US$1.2) worth of sales representing over 29,000 transactions.
Commenting on the new figure, Mr. Colm McLoughlin, Managing Director of Dubai Duty Free said: "The new record was set at the beginning of Eid Al Adha and it is a great indicator for the first quarter of 2002. An analysis of the sales figures on the day shows an increase in luxury food and gift items and reflect the purchasing trends of passengers visiting overseas during the Eid holidays."
The biggest sales on the day were found in Dubai Duty Free's two FoodPlus outlets with delicatessen items accounting for Dhs423,000 (US$118,000) worth of sales. Food sales were closely followed by sales of confectionery which reached a daily record Dhs419,000 (US$116,000).
Perfume sales topped Dhs401,000 (US$111,000), closely followed by the traditional No. 1 selling category of Gold, which accounted for Dhs398,000 (US$110,000) worth of sales on the day.
"We are delighted with the new daily record and are determined to keep on track to reach our annual sales target of Dhs1 billion in 2002," added Mr. McLoughlin.
