Speedo Swimwear to partner Qatar Swimming Federation

In one of the first business announcements from the Qatar Sports International exhibition, QSi 2002, the world famous Speedo brand has been appointed as the country's official swimwear supplier & partner to the Qatar national swimming federation.

The Speedo deal allows for the provision of swimsuits, apparel & training equipment to be used by the national team in all international & local events.

Yousef Al Saai, President of the Qatar Swimming Federation, said "we are delighted to be working with such a major force in the world of international sports, I know with Speedo's support that the Qatar swimming team will excel in every tornament they participate in".

Speedo's famous one piece "FastSkin" swimsuit has become the icon of modern day competitive swimming. The costume design was based upon a study made on Sharks who's quickness is attributed to V shaped ridges on their skin. This has been emulated in the materials used in the construction of the FastSkin suit which was refined using a digital technology. Swimmers body's were scanned in 8 swimming positions to ensure that the suits allowed for a full range of movements thus maximizing a swimmer's performance .

Testament to the success of the FastSkin design was clear after the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games where 27 out of 33 Gold Medals were awarded to swimmers wearing Speedo's FastSkin suits. Subsequently 11 out of 14 World Records and 11 out of 15 US Records were set by swimmers wearing the suit.

The FastSkin suit also met with great success during the Busan Asian Games, not just because of its proven performance, but also because it satisfies religious & cultural needs for modesty.

Qatar Swimming Federation is a flourishing organization representing the countries 8 swimming clubs with 600 swimmers. Apart from regular pool events, the clubs promote diving & water polo through training schools. Presently the national swimming & diving teams total 70 athletes.
