Auto parts show opens in Dubai
- United Arab Emirates: Sunday, May 23 - 2004 at 13:44
- PRESS RELEASE
The region's largest auto aftermarket trade event opened today at Dubai's World Trade Centre featuring over 300 exhibitors from 29 countries, spread across two halls.
After just one year the organisers, Epoc Messe Frankfurt, have trebled the size of their first show, but hope for even greater things next year. Michael Dehn, Project Manager said "Messe Frankfurt's parent show Automechanika in Germany, spans 22 halls covering 200,000 square metres, so we are justified in anticipating further growth in the Dubai event, especially given the growth in the sector at 20%."
The opening ceremony was performed by Khaled Bin Sulayam, Director General of Dubai's Department of Tourism & Commerce Marketing, attended by senior members of the automotive industry and the diplomatic community. The delegation were greeted by the Managing Partners of Epoc Messe Frankfurt, Geoffrey Dickinson and Michael El Nayal.
With 65% of all auto part imports to Dubai being re-exported, it's understandable why so many visitors attending the first day were from outside the UAE. The organisers estimate that 7,500 visitors will attend the 4 day programme from all over the region including Africa and the CIS. A number of dealers are also expected from Iraq which, despite the prevailing circumstances, represents a massive market opportunity for second hand vehicles and subsequent demand for spare parts and accessories.
300 exhibits are on display from the industry's leading manufacturers including AC Delco, Bosch and GM. Leading local distributors such as Arwani Trading, Middle East Marketing & Equipment, Polimar, Sedana and Sparco will also be showcasing their latest products.
Parallel to the show, the Automechanika Gulf Academy will be running on all four show days, featuring seminars, presentations and interactive discussions with renowned speakers from the Automotive Aftermarket sector including Ayres Bin Hendi, Manager of Tasjeel in Dubai, George Goddu, Customer service Director of Ford and Walid Daniel, Managing Director of SPAN International.
Many international industry groups and associations have endorsed Automechanika including the region's own spare parts watchdog, the Automotive Brand Protection Coalition, (ABPC). Established in 2002 by founding members Daimler-Chrysler, Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Toyota, General Motors and BMW, the main aims of the group are to provide education about the need to eliminate dangerous counterfeit parts. They have regular contact with governments and the police force to provide training and to encourage a pro-active approach to eliminating this dangerous trade.
The exhibition will be held in halls 1 and 2 at the Dubai World Trade Centre from May 23rd until 26th 2004. Opening hours are from 10am until 1pm and from 5pm until 9pm daily.
