The British University in Dubai brings best of British education to region

Today HH Sheik Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum and Jon Baldwin, Registrar and Secretary of the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) signed the official partnership agreement between The British University in Dubai (BUiD) and UMIST.
"As part of BUiD's strategy to offer the best of British education in Dubai, this partnership demonstrates a significant link," said David J. Lock, Registrar and Acting CEO, The British University in Dubai. "The world-class research and innovation for which UMIST is renowned will raise the bar in post-graduate education for the Middle East."
This agreement between the two universities will enable BUiD to offer UMIST programmes in Project Management at BUiD's Institute of Engineering. The Project Management coursework will include modules in: foundations; strategy; planning and resource management; costs and value management; commercial and procurement; organisation; people and culture; and management of projects.
As part of its partnership agreement, UMIST has helped BUiD to appoint lecturers who will provide the project management programme and will provide general support to BUiD academic staff, advising on the recruitment of students and developing research collaboration with BUiD staff. The agreement with UMIST also provides BUiD with a licence to use UMIST programmes, as well as the intellectually property rights to them. Additionally, UMIST will play a key role in quality assurance by appointing supervisors for research projects and external examiners.
"This partnership with BUiD is in line with UMIST's objective of furthering our international reach and bringing the University's research capabilities to the Middle East," said Jon Baldwin, Registrar and Secretary, UMIST. "We are very pleased to be a part of creating this new university, which will bring the best of UK education to Dubai, the UAE and region."
The Masters degree in Project Management provides generic education allowing students to apply their knowledge to industrial sectors such as construction, finance, oil and gas, and IT. BUiD will offer a full-time and part-time Masters degree programme in Project Management starting from September 2004. Degrees will be awarded by BUiD in association with UMIST.
University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) is an award winning university with a reputation for research and teaching excellence. UMIST has won the prestigious Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education four times. The University is unique in having been awarded the only ever Department of Trade and Industry Award for Excellence for Technology Transfer.
