The new offerings, which aim to consolidate and grow the company's share of the regional monitor market to over 45 per cent in 2004, have been designed to deliver an optimal multimedia solution to customers.

Samsung's new series, available in both TFT-LCD and CRT models in sizes from 15-inch to 19-inch, are equipped with six, first-of-a-kind magic functions that offer both, IT users and general consumers, a choice of monitors that accommodate all computer display requirements.

Mr. J. H. Park, President, Samsung Gulf Electronics, said: "The launch of Samsung's latest range of Magic-series monitors would serve to reinvent the traditional computer display industry in the region."

"The prime objective of inventing the Magic-series monitors is to offer sophisticated functionalities that are non-existent in the current generation of monitors. Even today, it seems far-fetched for a monitor to perform important tasks such as adjust brightness levels to suit different user environments, transform into a television at a click of a button, or extend ergonomics to 5 levels of mechanical flexibility," Mr. Park continued.

According to Mr. Park, the launch of the new series is a step forward in the regional computer display technology. "These next-generation monitors from Samsung offer consumers the best of today's digital technology, while preparing them for the future." Mr. Park added.

Samsung Magic-series features
The magic features include:
• MagicBright: allows users to upgrade to 5 brightness modes to suit different application environments, from game mode to internet mode and sports mode
• MagicStand: a 5-level ergonomics designed to provide a comfortable working condition
• MagicTune: a button-less on-screen display function to maximise efficiency with a colour calibrator for clearer image quality
• MagicSpeed: to reduce response time to almost half of other monitors for stable viewing of DVDs and streaming video
• MagicTuner: to allow conversion to TV mode or NTSC/Pal
• MagicColour: to display rich and vivid digital images.

"As the global leader in display technology, and the world's largest manufacturer of monitors, Samsung aims to differentiate its products by incorporating new and innovative design and technology elements that deliver tangible values to customers," said Mr. Taeho Roh, General Manager, Samsung Gulf Electronics. "The launch of Samsung's magic-series monitors in the region will set a new technology benchmark, while providing our customers with an enhanced multimedia experience," he added.

Samsung Market Position
Samsung's estimates that the total market size for monitors (CRT and TFT-LCD) in the Middle East region in 2004 is around 2 million units, up 20 per cent from the previous year. In 2003, Samsung's share of the regional market stood at 40 per cent; the company is targeting a 45 per cent market share in 2004. In the UAE, Samsung enjoys a 48 percent share of the 320,000-unit monitor market.

Mr. K.S. Vasudevan, Senior Manager, Digital Information technology division, Samsung Gulf Electronics (SGE) said: "Continuing with our undisputed leadership position in the worldwide monitor market for over 16 years, this year, Samsung will be further strengthening its position by launching monitors with integrated software features, a feat that is unmatched in the industry. In 2003, Samsung had 22 per cent world market share for its monitors business. For 2004, the company targets to ship 27 million units and extends its number one player status to 54 countries, from 41 countries in 2003."
