Italian firm lands major contract in Fujairah Airport development

The announcement was made today at the Airport Build & Supply Exhibition taking place at Airport Expo Dubai by Khalid Mazroui, general manager, Fujairah International Airport.

Represented in the UAE by Dubai-based Al Shirawi Group, CCM Airport Equipment has successfully supplied and installed counters at 120 airports throughout the world, including specially designed counters at the airports in Dubai, Sharjah, Doha, Milan, Amsterdam and Madrid.

The Italian company is one of more than 130 leading airport suppliers from almost 30 countries taking part in the exhibition, organised by Streamline Marketing, and competing for an estimated US$15 billion worth of airport developments in the Middle East and North Africa.

Taking place until Wednesday 9 June, the Airport Build & Supply Exhibition is held under the patronage of H.H.Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Department of Civil Aviation Dubai and chairman of Emirates Airline.

Among first-time exhibitors at the event is CAM group, which announced the opening of its first regional office in Dubai and launched a more efficient, cost effective and ecologically-friendly technology for the cleaning of airport runways.

"During landings, planes deposit a substantial amount of rubber on the runway. This mixes with the dust particles already present on the surface, thus reducing the roughness of the surface, lowering its grip and increasing hazards," said Francois Buscail, Commercial Consultant, CAM Group.

"There are currently two mainstream technologies now in use to clean runways. Chemical cleaning is generally very costly and ecologically unsound, while the use of high-pressure water does not restore the pavement's roughness, which is an important element in achieving adequate friction values," he said. "Developed by Italian manufacturer, Trevalbeton our technology uses vacuum to gather all debris and waste from the runway, storing them in a watertight tank. The tank can then be emptied at a storage or treatment facility, which significantly reduces damage to the environment."

Another exhibitor, Dubai-based Citytec expects good news based on its participation at the event.

"Among the huge range of security-related products that we are showcasing is a new, quick and effective under-vehicle-surveillance system, which we have brought to this event at the request of Dubai International Airport's security team," said Roger Whitting, general manager, Citytec, Special Equipment Division.

As in previous years, the Department of Civil Aviation Dubai will be present at the exhibition, while each exhibitor at the show will be able to take advantage of private, pre-arranged meetings with relevant project managers, engineers or architects involved in Dubai International Airport's massive expansion project. The Department of Civil Aviation of Ras Al Khaimah as well as Qatar Airways have all booked stands at the event this year.

The event will give visitors the chance to attend seminars presented by 13 leading companies dealing in products and services relevant to the aviation and airport industries. Visitors can learn more on a wide variety of issues, including boarding solutions and noise and blast protection at airports. Attendance is free for trade visitors.
