Owned by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Hatta's victory marked the start of the Al Maktoum involvement in racing - and the beginning of many victories to come.
In celebration of 25 years of outstanding racing victories by the Al Maktoum family, Dubai-based author Graeme Wilson is launching his fourth edition of the best-selling 'The Maktoums: Legends of the Turf', at The Equestrian Show, which takes place this March 20-22nd at the home of the Dubai World Cup at Nad Al Sheba Racecourse.
''The Maktoums: Legends of the Turf' is the only chronicle of the family's quarter century involvement in racing, and the road that took them there,' said Graeme Wilson, author and co-owner of Media Prima, publishers of the book.
'The book traces a family equestrian tradition that stretches well over 150 years, while going on to detail the careers of the finest horses ever to represent the Maktoum family in the modern era.
'The previous three editions have sold over 50,000 copies worldwide and we know this will also be a success story with orders already being placed for the first editions.'
Graeme Wilson is using The Equestrian Show as a platform to promote the book in the lead-up to The Dubai World Cup which takes place on March 23rd.
'It's not everyday that you get race-goers and equestrian players from across the world in one place…so it's an opportunity not to miss,' he said, adding that he would also be signing his book on the last day of The Equestrian Show from his stand at the show.
The Equestrian Show - the region's only official trade show dedicated to the equine world - is held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum and has the support of the Dubai Racing Club, UAE Equestrian & Racing Federation and Emirates Racing Association.
'It's an amazing week when global equine chiefs gather in Dubai for the Dubai World Cup and to check out the latest in the equestrian industry,' said Nick Webb, Director, Streamline Marketing, organisers of The Equestrian Show. 'The Equestrian Show features everything from premier stud farms like Darley and Shadwell, to veterinary clinics and manufacturers.'
'The Maktoums: Legends of the Turf' goes on sale at The Equestrian Show 2002
Twenty-five years ago a filly called Hatta raced to victory and with her opened a chapter in a saga that has stretched over a quarter of a century and one that would ultimately transform the world of racing.
