Emaar Properties was one of the key sponsors for the event.
'Businesses everywhere are extending their operations across national boundaries to further the creation of a huge global village,' said Mr. Alabbar. 'While this is a great achievement for global communications, the social, political and security pressures on business are considerable, especially under the glare of an all-pervasive media. Forums like the ICC World Congress are very significant, as they enable us to work together to find solutions to common challenges.
'We will be using our individual experiences to emphasise the increasing demand for transparency from stakeholders and thus push for good corporate governance.'
Mr. Alabbar was part of the eight-member panel at the plenary session on 'Risks Instabilities and Surprises.' Other panel members included Mr. Claude Bébéar, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Axa, France; David Bell, Chairman, The Financial Times, UK; Larbi Bellaha, Chairman, Commission of Economic Policy, Morocco; Bertrand Collomb, Chairman and CEO, Lafarge, France; Richard Greenhalgh, Chairman, Unilever UK; Richard D. McCormick, ICC Honorary Chairman and Paul Skinner, Chairman, Rio Tinto, United Kingdom. The session was moderated by Moisés Naím, Editor-in-Chief, Foreign Policy, USA.
The International Chamber of Commerce was created in 1919 to develop international trade and business and has proved to be a major contributor to global economic and social development. The same objectives continue to inspire the ICC today through its national committees in some 130 countries, the international secretariat in Paris, its 16 commissions of volunteer business experts and its renowned International Court of Arbitration. The theme of the 35th ICC World Congress currently being held in Marrakesh is global economic integration and the challenges facing business.
