Marwan Bin Beyat, Head of the Sweet Surprises Committee, said: "The seamless cooperation between the DTCM and the private sector in Dubai will make Sweet Surprises a truly sweet success and the theme week will be flavoured in a unique manner. The week will not be just about sweets, but will include learning and fun as well."

The department began preparing for the week about two months back, and now it is busy putting the final touches to the various activities lined up during the entertaining week. "The Calendar of Events and the Opening Ceremony modalities have been finalised. What we can promise during the course of the week is a wide array of entertaining and creative activities, targeting all the members of the family. A total of 150 educational and entertaining events have been lined up, which will be organised in nine different shopping malls in the Emirate," Mr. Bin Beyat said.

As part of the activities, several workshops and competitions will be organised to teach children the art of cooking delicious treats under the guidance of professional chefs from various hotels in Dubai. Additionally several hotels, confectioners and bakeries will participate in competitions organised at various levels of the different malls.

"The Sweet Surprises Committee has made special efforts to create activities that appeal to families of different countries and to kids of different age groups," he added.

The children will also be taught the various ways and means of preparing the main kinds of sweets, besides putting together a sculpture of fruits and chocolates. Apart from this, the week will host a whole range of cookery contests. "The role of Dubai Summer Surprises is not just entertainment. It is also an excellent school for developing skills for everyone who is part of the extravaganza," Mr. Bin Beyat said.

Among the shopping malls which will play major roles in hosting the various activities during the theme week are BurJuman Centre, Deira City Centre, Al Ghurair City, Hamarain Centre, Wafi City, Mazaya Centre and the Al Bustan Centre.
