Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department announces event line-up for Arts Surprises
- United Arab Emirates: Sunday, June 13 - 2004 at 15:20
- PRESS RELEASE
The Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department announced the event line-up for the Arts Surprises week, which will be organised between June 17 and 23, as part of the many events that are being held during Dubai Summer Surprises 2004.
Lieutenant Colonel Jassim Abdul Ghafour, Assistant Director of Executive Office at (DNRD) and Head of the Arts Surprises Committee, said: "This is the second time that DNRD has been given the responsibility of organising the Arts Surprises theme week of DSS. This reflects the artistic abilities of the Organising Team within DNRD, and demonstrates the value of this theme to the visitors of Dubai Summer Surprises."
"It has been a great honour to be chosen by the Supreme Committee of DSS for organising this theme week, given that as an organisation we are committed to participating in all government initiatives and uplifting the community.
"The line-up of the events has been carefully researched jointly by the Organising Committee of Arts Surprises as well as the DSS Office, along with a detailed analysis of the events done in the past years. The renewed event list is true to the theme of the 'Big Fun for Little Ones'. What makes Arts Surprises very special is its hidden ability to bring out the creativity of the children, inspiring them to appreciate and learn about an array of art forms, whether it is performing arts such as theatre, music etc or merely painting, colouring etc.
'The Opening Ceremony of the theme week will be held at 7pm at the Modhesh Fun City stage on Thursday, i.e. June 17. We expect a large number of children to attend the extravaganza. We are confident that the children will be able to identify with the entertaining music and interact with the same."
The Arts Surprises theme week will have several activities and events - combining the best of educational elements and entertainment elements.
One of the main events will be the series of Arabic plays performed at the Indian High School for three days. The comedy enacted in the plays will depict the various issues plaguing community today in a light hearted manner. The tickets for these plays will be on sale at the Modhesh Fun City, DNRD, Deira City Centre, Mercato Mall, BurJuman Centre and the Al Ghurair City.
A line up of other plays namely Min Kul Kitab Kessa (Story from Every Book), Taht Al Ardh (Under the Ground) and Transit will focus on encouraging artistic values in different age-groups. These will be held at Modhesh Fun City, BurJuman Centre and Deira City Centre.
One of the other activities that would attract a lot of attention is the 'International Art Stations'. Inspired by the sojourns of two children exploring the world, this activity being held at the BurJuman Centre will teach children more about Geography and the culture of various nations in the world. Just like they would do in the real life, the children will be given a passport which would be stamped as soon as they reach any destination such as UAE, India, Jordan, South Africa and Egypt. On 'reaching' the country, they will also be taught about the various art forms performed there. At the completion of the game successfully, each child will be given a certificate and a gift.
During the Arts Surprises theme week, several events will be organised showcasing the art forms of different countries. Among these, 'The 70's Street Performers Show' and 'The Professional Musicians Show' will highlight the musical cultures of France in the 1970s and will relive the Italian music experience. Attractive clothes, shining musical instruments, with an addition of a twist - performances on stilts -- will give the young visitors of Arts Surprises an awesome taste of the world of artists.
In addition to the above, the Modhesh Fun City will be hosting the 'Third International Children's Summit', where children within the age-group of 10-15 years will be invited from different countries to present their papers on the solutions for issues that impact the quality of life for children, globally and locally.
Moreover, DNRD will also showcase a Snake Oasis, which will exhibit live snakes of various exotic species.
