The deal was signed by Khalid Al Zarooni, President of DSC, and Stephen Lever, General Manager, Civil Engineering Division, Al Naboodah Contracting, at the DSC headquarters.

Khalid Al Zarooni said, "DSC chose Al Naboodah Contracting as it is the leading construction company in the UAE and has extensive experience in implementing high profile projects like DSC.

Zarooni added: "DSC is currently in the process of finalising stadium design and tenders for the golf course's irrigation: shaping and routing will be offered later. Documentation for tenders on infrastructure facilities has been completed and we are coordinating with our consultants on this."

"With the signing of the contract, construction work on the world's first purpose designed city themed on Mega-sports, will begin," said Mr. U. Balasubramaniam, CEO, DSC.

He added,"The project will have a 10,000 seat multi-use indoor stadium and a 25,000 seat multi-use outdoor stadium. It will also have a 10,000 seat outdoor field hockey pitch and a 25,000 seat outdoor cricket pitch. DSC's stadium design process in four stages include: design competition, short-listing and selection of designs; design criteria standard and vision development; design development; and construction."

"As one of the world's leading destinations for sports training, DSC will host major international sporting events. As a unique venue in which to live and work, it will be a 'must see' destination for tourists," said Balasubramaniam.

He added: "The golf course and sports related academies are part of Phase I of DSC, which will feature a variety of sports stadia. Lots for villas and residential towers are being allocated along the infrastructure of Phase I, which is expected to take four years to complete."

Stephen Lever said: "The project involves the construction of an access off the Emirates Road into the development, together with building of a perimeter fence, offices and the formation of access roads along the route for future permanent roads. Also included in this phase are enabling earthworks and the construction of a lined lake."

Due for completion by 2008, DSC is set to attract talent not only from throughout the UAE but from the wider Middle East and Africa region, and other international destinations.
