As the reputation of Dubai grows internationally, Gold and Jewellery Group Dubai Chairman Tawhid Abdullah predicted that the massive promotion would significantly help in the campaign to make Dubai 'The Jewellery Destination of the World'. He said the Group was anticipating a sales increase of over 7 per cent as a direct result of the promotion.
Building on the success of the summer promotion in 2003, this year's event is anticipated to surpass last year when over 1.2 million coupons were given away to over 370,000 shoppers in gold and jewellery outlets during the summer months.
Launching the 2004 Promotion, Mr. Abdullah, said: 'This is our biggest summer promotion to date and offers a true gold and jewellery surprise to our customers during the summer. As Dubai prepares to welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors the superb quality, range and most competitive prices in the world will once again make gold and jewellery stores a magnet for shoppers.'
'With an estimated 90 per cent of all visitors to Dubai buying jewellery we are anticipating another great summer and expect to see sales rise considerably compared to last year. The world class quality and range of our product and the fantastic offer we are launching will also further strengthen Dubai's growing reputation as the jewellery destination of the world,' added Abdullah.
Mr. Abdullah said that sales could increase by as much as Dhs 20 million on last year generating a major boost to the industry in Dubai.
World Gold Council Managing Director, Middle East, Turkey and Pakistan, Mr. Moaz Barakat added: 'This promotion comes on the back of a booming year for the industry in Dubai that saw retail gold sales increase by over 41 per cent in the first quarter of 2004 compared to the corresponding quarter a last year.'
'The World Gold Council is totally committed to the UAE market place and we are delighted to be working in partnership with the Gold and Jewellery Group Dubai to offer both local residents and summer visitors a fantastic promotional offer to add to the range and quality of the gold and jewellery on display,' Mr. Barakat stressed.
One of Dubai's strongest attractions for both its cosmopolitan population and multinational tourists is the sheer range and diversity of styles ranging from jewellery made in the UAE to distinctive Indian styling and Italian designs - allowing the visitor to always find something to suit their taste and their pocket.
'Today Dubai is quite simply the best place in the world to buy gold and jewellery. There is no place that can match it - which is why so many of our visitors always visit the Gold Souk or other outlets to buy jewellery. This summer's fantastic 10-week promotion is set to further attract visitors and we are looking forward to a hugely successful promotion,' concluded Mr. Abdullah.
Over 300 members of the Gold and Jewellery Group Dubai are participating in the summer promotion.
