Optimized for performance and portability, these new 15-inch models provide increased flexibility and comfort with larger, brighter and higher resolution screens. Select models of the 15-inch ThinkPad T42 and T42p come with "Flexview" technology, offering 170-degree viewing angles in all directions.

"One of the typical challenges that people find when buying a new laptop is that they always have to compromise on bulkier and heavier machines when opting for larger screens. This is particularly the case with professionals such as engineers, architects and graphic designers who need the larger screens to support the wide range of design applications that they use in their line of work," said Sameh Farid, regional manager of personal computing division, IBM Middle East, Egypt and Pakistan. "With the new IBM Thinkpad T42 and T42p models, there is no compromise. They are the ideal machines for mobile users in need of a lightweight notebook with extensive functionality and a desktop PC-sized screen."

Available in 14 and 15-inch screen models, models of the ThinkPad T42 and T42p will be available with Intel's new mobile Pentium M processors, improving mobile performance and battery life. The new ThinkPad T42 and T42p will be available with Intel Pentium M Processor 735, 745, and 755 technology (1) featuring 2MB of L2 cache, as well as the Intel Pentium M 1.5GHz processor with 1MB of L2 cache.

Power of a Mobile Workstation
Combining the mobility of a ThinkPad notebook with high-speed graphic performance, the ThinkPad T42p mobile workstations offer a robust graphics capacity, raw processing power and long battery life. With the new 15-inch enlarged screen size, the T42p is the ideal solution for displaying detailed designs, dramatic digital content and multimedia projects and high-powered engineering applications -- in the office or on the road. An extensive independent software vendor testing and certification process verifies that ThinkPad mobile workstations can run some of the most demanding, graphics-intensive workstation applications.

Select models of the ThinkPad T42p, the thinnest and lightest mobile workstation in the industry, will offer Intel's Pentium M Processor 745 or 755, ATI Mobility FireGL T2 Graphics with OpenGL support, "Flexview" technology, UXGA (1600 x 1200) resolution, 802.11 a/b/g and the entire portfolio of IBM ThinkVantage Technologies.

ThinkVantage Technologies Rescue Data and Save Time
The ThinkPad T42 and T42p come equipped with a variety of IBM ThinkVantage Technologies that improve security, provide choice and ease-of-use in wireless capabilities, and simplify PC management for IT staff. IBM Rescue and Recovery with Rapid Restore provides a set of self-recovery tools to help users diagnose, get help and recover from a software crash, even if the primary operating system will not boot. This one-button solution helps with everything from easy system backup and the restoration of a corrupted or deleted file, to recovery from a complete software failure.

Because today's mobile systems are at a continual risk of being dropped and damaged, IBM is offering the Active Protection System on the ThinkPad T42 and T42p to help protect user's data. Similar to the technology used in automobiles to deploy airbags, the Active Protection System uses a microchip on the system board to detect system acceleration (such as in a fall) and responds by temporarily parking the drive's read/write head. This rapid response can help prevent hard drive crashes that occur in some falls, helping to prevent total data loss and ultimately reduce downtime.

Designed with mobile users in mind, the new ThinkPad T42 and T42p notebook computers feature high-performance wireless networking with integrated wireless, including Intel's 802.11 b/g (2) wireless on select models. Included on both new models is IBM Access Connections 3.0, a software solution that saves users' wireless and wired network settings and simplifies the management of multiple connectivity environments.

Leadership Design
IBM was one of the first adopters of the 9.5 mm optical drive, the Ultrabay Slim. Today, IBM is introducing the new ThinkPad Multi-Burner Ultrabay Slim Drive on select models of the ThinkPad T42 and T42p. Providing the slimmest and most functional IBM DVD recordable drive ever, the ThinkPad Multi-Burner Ultrabay Slim Drive reads and writes most recording formats and helps users to archive and access data, video, photo and music files on high capacity DVDs or CDs.

Approximately 1.2-inches thin (3) and weighing less than 5.3 pounds (4), IBM's newest 15-inch ThinkPad boasts one of the longest system battery lives in the industry, at up to 6.4 hours (5) on select models. The ThinkPad T42 and T42p's unique battery options work with the system battery to deliver all-day computing for people who take their notebooks with them anywhere and everywhere, offering up to 9 hours of optional battery life.
