  • PRESS RELEASE

VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTSE) has announced the availability and roadmap for the utility computing technologies obtained through its recent acquisition of Ejasent, Inc.

VERITAS MicroMeasure™ is the first general-purpose software to enable usage-based metering, cost allocation and charge-back billing of all physical and logical components within a data center - including storage, server and application consumption by specific users and departments. Previously, metering, cost allocation and charge-back solutions were limited to only network or server metrics, and involved manually reviewing spreadsheets to create accurate cost allocations.

VERITAS MicroMeasure software, a building block of VERITAS' utility computing strategy, is now available in a limited release to VERITAS' key systems integrator partners, including EDS and Sun Microsystems. By the end of the year, the technology will be delivered as part of a future version of VERITAS CommandCentral™ Service - software that provides full transparency into IT resource consumption, service levels and costs - to enhance the existing cost allocation and chargeback function for storage and backup/restore usage by adding statistics on server, network and application usage.

"EDS has been working with VERITAS' MicroMeasure products for nearly two years," said Larry Lozon, portfolio executive, EDS Hosting Services. "The VERITAS MicroMeasure tools and technologies are a key component of the EDS Agile Infrastructure foundation and help us track and account for compute utilization, a key element in providing agile utility services."

The other software technology VERITAS acquired through the Ejasent acquisition, UpScale™, enables application virtualization - the ability to migrate an application from one server to another without disrupting or terminating the application state or connections. This high-availability software is currently scheduled to become available in the first half of 2005 as an extension to VERITAS Cluster Server software, the industry's leading open systems clustering solution, and is ideal for reducing both planned and unplanned downtime, facilitating server consolidation and effectively managing a wide range of applications across heterogeneous IT environments.

"At the recent VERITAS VISION event held in Dubai, it was made clear to us how many organizations in the Middle East operate heterogeneous IT environments," said Sam Tayan, regional director, VERITAS Software Middle East. "These new products and technologies acquired from Ejasent strengthen VERITAS' ability to enable utility computing for our customers. By integrating them into our CommandCentral and Cluster Server software, we are able to enhance visibility into all aspects of IT system usage and bring about even higher levels of application availability, further aligning IT to changing business needs."
