GEMS enters a joint venture with Alokozay Group of Companies

As part of its ongoing commitment to grow and expand its operations and services, GEMS, Global Education Management Systems has recently signed a joint venture with Alokozay Group of companies to set-up a network of schools in Afghanistan.

The project starts immediately and the first school is expected to open in Kabul in September 2005.

Speaking on the occasion, Hugh MacPherson, Chief Operating Officer of GEMS, said,
"This is a very exciting project for us and it marks another landmark event in the global expansion of GEMS. This project is in line with the company's corporate policy of continuously expanding ongoing services and forging new partnerships to pioneer new developments."

"We believe that education is the stepping-stone to a better future and our aim is to make quality education available throughout the world. The provision of quality education is much needed in Afghanistan to help the country develop and to encourage investment in the country after decades of destabilization and virtually no infrastructural development."

"Our investment in this project is just a small step towards achieving a brighter future for the children of Afghanistan. Education is the key to any sustainable development and a core component of growth. We hope that the provision of a good education system in Afghanistan will help achieve more stability in the country and ensure a good quality of life for future generations to come."

He added, "I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Alokozay to place his trust and confidence in GEMS to be part of this positive initiative. This project further reiterates our commitment to globally spread the message of holistic education by instilling ethical values and principles that serve as guiding tools for the next generation to grow into socially responsible citizens."

Commenting on the partnership, Mr. Alokozay, Managing Director, Alokozay Group of Companies said, " We are very enthusiastic about this venture with GEMS as we share the same values of quality and high levels of service. We are confident that with GEMS expertise by our side, we'll be able to set a dynamic learning environment for the children of Afghanistan."
