The world-first PDP took a 20-strong specialist research team in Korea a year to develop and involved an investment of more than US$3 million. Delivering unrivalled picture quality, LG¡¯s PDP breakthrough uses Peak Enhanced Technology (PET), which is expected to corner a major share of the global PDP market for LG in the next few years.

LG officials expect to release a commercial version of the technology this year and apply PET to all new PDP models by the end of the year. LG technical experts say that PET achieves a level of brightness that at 1500§à/§³ is nearly twice the industry average, and an astonishing contrast ratio of 5000:1.

Mr. K.H. Kim, President of LG Electronics Middle East and Africa said: ¡°The PET technological breakthrough is anticipated to give LG a 30 per cent share of the global PDP market by 2005. By delivering advanced PDP design and process technologies, and the world¡¯s largest PDP production capacity, LG can look forward to becoming the world leader for PDPs in the near term.¡±

In 2003, LG developed the first K/K PDP module with a brightness of 1000cd/§³ and a contrast ratio of 1000:1, and LG is currently applying a contrast ratio of 3000:1 to all models.

In 1998, LG surpassed Japanese PDP makers by developing the world¡¯s first 60-inch PDP, and went on to develop 71-inch and 76-inch PDPs in 2003 through continuous R&D investments.
